College of American Pathologists (CAP)

Internationally recognized, CAP accreditation is a way to demonstrate high-quality laboratory procedures and meet the most rigorous scientifically supported standards. CLIA (Clinical laboratory Improvement Amendment) compliance requirements are met or exceeded by CAP requirements. The rigorous evaluations ensure high accuracy in testing results.

Accredited laboratories by CAP must meet the requirements of their extensive checklists. These checklists assess laboratories against thousands upon thousands of requirements each year. These requirements are updated annually to reflect the latest best practices. This rigorous process ensures high standards of care and testing in areas such as:

  • Validation of test system

  • Analytical quality control

  • Pre- and post-analytic quality management

  • Proficiency testing

  • Communication with various stakeholders: clinicians, patients, and administration

Clinical laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA)

CLIA was passed by Congress in 1988 to establish standards for non-research laboratory testing of human specimens. Each laboratory that performs these tests must be certified and approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) administers this program along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

CLIA quality standards specify not only how the laboratory is run but also the qualifications of personnel and the use of analytic systems. CLIA standards apply to all clinical laboratories offering laboratory services. Regulations are dependent on the testing method. Pangea Laboratory has been certified to perform high-complexity tests. The requirements are very strict.

We believe in doing more than just being certified by CLIA. This is why we are also a CAP accredited laboratory, licensed to safely test human and animal specimens. Every two years, CAP inspections will be conducted by experts teams of experienced laboratory professionals from multiple disciplines. This ensures that our laboratory operations meet or exceed the industry's standards.
